Ukraine is being encircled by Russian troops. Diplomacy has hit a deadlock. And a Russian re-invasion of its Western neighbor looks more likely than ever.
Russian troops and military hardware entered Belarus this week, ostensibly for exercises that just so happen to be conveniently taking place near the Ukrainian border.
The move came as Vladimir Putin’s Russia continued to surge an estimated 100,000 troops near Russia’s border with Ukraine. The additional deployment of Russian forces to Belarus means that Moscow can now attack Ukraine from Russia in the east and southeast, from the annexed Crimean peninsula in the south, and from Belarus in the north.
