The start of the Russian reinvasion of Ukraine capped a dizzying week that saw Putin recognize the independence of two Moscow-controlled enclaves in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, make blatantly false allegations of Ukrainian atrocities against Russian-speakers, and deliver an unhinged and bellicose speech by the Kremlin leader denying Ukraine’s right to exist as a country.
