Yevgeny Prigozhin, formerly one of Vladimir Putin’s closest ally and head of the Wagner mercenary group, is thought to have died in a plane crash outside of Moscow. Wagner took care of much of Russia’s dirty work in Ukraine and other countries until June, when Prigozhin led a failed mutiny against Russia’s military command and announced a march on Moscow. On DW News, I spoke to Konstantin Eggert (DW Russian Affairs Analyst) and Brian Whitmore (Atlantic Council) about the incident, the speculation surrounding it, Prigozhin and the future of thousands of fighters now left in the field without command.
